As of March 4 there are still a few tryout candidates who have not yet turned in their athletic physical. You must have this form completed and signed by your physician in order to try out beginning Monday March 9. No exceptions! Check the email from Andy Wednesday March 4 to see if yours is on file. If you did not receive an email from Andy, send him a note at fuehr11@yahoo.com and tell him your latest email address
WMU Team Camp Schedule: Those of you who signed up for the team camp, times are Tuesday and Thursday from 7 to 8:30 pm (March 3 and 5). Games will be Sunday March 8 at 2:45, 4:15, and 6:30. If you haven't filled out the waiver yet look for Kristin Kay. And don't forget your checks for $75.00 to WMU Soccer if you haven't already paid.
Tryouts start Monday March 9th from 4:30-6pm at Soccerzone on Sprinkle Rd. Click on the calendar link to have your own copy of the girls soccer calendar. Tryouts run from Monday to Thursday, with players being informed of their status during the Thursday session. Our player/parent meeting is Monday March 16th, 6:30pm in the PNHS Library. Call or email Andy if you have any questions.

You must have a physical on file in order to try out. If you haven't done this yet, download the form (click here) and arrange to have your doctor fill it out. Turn it in to the Athletic Department office (or at the latest you can give it to Andy the first day of tryouts assuming it's properly filled out and signed). |
Optional workout sessions Monday through Thursday after school continue through February 24 (see schedule below). |
Optional WMU Team Camp is fun and is a great way to get ready. See details below, and contact Kristin Kay to reserve your spot. You can register at wmubroncos.com. Tues/Thurs will likely be our days. |
Tryouts are scheduled at SoccerZone the week of March 9 unless the weather makes a dramatic improvement. All candidates are expected to be dressed and ready by 4:30 pm, and each session lasts until 6:00. Teams will be announced Thursday March 12. The Parent Meeting will be Monday March 16 at 6:30 in the PN Media Center. |
Everyone who makes the team will need to have shin guards that meet the new height requirements by the first game, so if you need new shin guards, make sure they're tall enough (based on your height) before you buy them. If you don't need new ones, make sure they're tall enough. See more information about this below. |
ATTENTION ALL PN GIRLS SOCCER PLAYERS: Get yourself ready for tryouts and the spring season by participating in the winter workouts Monday through Thursday starting January 5 and running through February 24. Tryouts are the week of March 9. Besides getting in shape, participation is expected to help reduce the risk of future injury because many of the exercises and drills are designed to build up strength in muscles that protect weak links in key structural elements (including the ACL). If you can't participate, you can work out on your own (click here for example program).

For those who signed up for the WMU Academy five Saturdays in January/February, the time is now 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the Seelye Center. Dates are January 10, 17, 24, and February 7 and 14.
The preseason informational handout distributed at the December 8th meeting is available here. To receive email updates regarding changes and other news, make sure Andy has your current email address. The optional soccer camp at WMU in March is being coordinated by Kristin Kay and she'll be sending out more information about that in the next several weeks.
The smaller shin guards many players have been wearing in recent years are no longer legal now that the National Federation of State High Schools passed a rule requiring high school players to wear height-appropriate shin guards approved by the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE). For a short summary of considerations regarding shin guards, click here. If you're curious what goes into setting standards for shin guards, you can go to the NOCSAE web site (I'm not admitting whether I did or didn't look at this, but I'm told the NOCSAE document specifies the "what" and "why" in very thorough detail). While all referees care about safety first and foremost, there are some referees who feel more strongly about shin guard size than others, and now that the National High School Federation has passed this rule effective this year, if you don't have shin guards that are tall enough, you can be told to leave the game until you're wearing approved equipment. Might be wise to be proactive and make sure you're covered (pun intended).
